Hop Li Chinese Restaurant is an absolute gem! The service was excellent, with attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed. The food was divine--authentic, flavorful, and beautifully presented. It's the perfect spot whether you're looking to bring a huge group for a feast or enjoy a more intimate date night with a loved one. The decor is stunning, adding to the overall experience. Highly recommend this place for anyone craving delicious Chinese cuisine! They have a lunch special and I must say make sure you get pork with salt and pepper.

Food alone, it's pretty good for Chinese. The food is a 4/5. Quality seems alright but it's a little on the high side. Everything we ordered came out piping hot and crisp which meant it was freshly prepared. Only bad thing was my steam white rice. It was well over cooked and was like a rice cake... all mushy inside the middle. The bad part is the service and atmosphere. Half the restaurant is closed down, just looks like areas for storage so only a few open tables. Decor is older, floors a little dirty, and tables/menus a lityle sticky. The gentlemen running the place doesn't speak English well and either doesn't hear or pretends not to hear any requests. For example, extra napkins or silverware... you can ask but you may or may not get it. It's a typical Chinese restaurant with poor service but pretty good food. Overall, I'd give this place a 3.6/5 so I'm rounding up.

The food is fresh, hot and delicious. It's Cantonese family style and hits the spot when you crave Chinese food that's more authentic than Panda Express. The service is what's to be expected at a small mom and pop Chinese restaurant where the workers speak limited English and appear to be grumpy. Luckily, I speak Cantonese which made communication a little better. The place is in a run-down strip mall on Santa Monica Blvd just east of Bundy. It's an older dirty plaza, but there's free parking on the ground level and underground. The underground seems kind of sketchy, so it may be better to park on the ground level or there seems to be plenty of meters and free parking in the neighborhood behind the restaurant. The restaurant itself isn't the cleanest and isn't fancy by any means. But we had a booth by the window and it was fine. Alas, you don't come for the ambiance or the service...you come for some good old Chinese food and they definitely delivered on that.

Good ol Chinese food tasting delicious and nice portions. Our standards are kung pao chicken, mapo tofu, a stir fried fish in black bean sauce, string beans, Mongolian beef. Always good and you know it's consistent. Service is very good by the waitstaff too.

This is the only place we go to for Chinese food for many reasons! Unfortunately with our lifestyle we can't eat out too much so we always take the food to-go and it still tastes great! They poke holes to allow fried food to vent which is always very thoughtful! They're always so quick to prepare the food as well We normally get their lo mein, honey walnut shrimp, beef broccoli, Mapo tofu, sweet and sour pork, orange chicken, spicy eggplant, tangerine beef, and sizzling rice soup! Flavor of everything is so good! I'm always so grateful to the workers because they always help me carry our food the car when I'm by myself with my toddler. You don't understand how appreciative I am to have them always help me. Definitely stop by and you'll have a great experience whether you dine in or take out!

The wife & I don't get out to the Westside too often, but today, meeting the sister-in-law for lunch and this restaurant is her go-to chinese restaurant. Located in a small corner plaza, Hop Li is actually bigger than what was used for business, sections closed off on both ends, only leaving a small middle section open, 3 to 4 large tables for parties of 6 to 12, and a handful of smaller booth for parties of 1 to 4. Place appears to be clean. Decor was just ok. The dining room could probably use a makeover, though. The food is rated as follows - Pan-fried string beans - 5/5, great dish, had that wok fried essences to it, perfectly seasoned with sautéed jalapeños & green onions. Beef chow fun - 4/5, very good dish, seasoned just right, not overly salted or oily. Spicy garlic eggplant - 3/5, just ok, eggplant was perfectly cooked, not too mushy, but seasoning was kind of weak, needed more seasoning. Kung Pao chicken - 4/5, this dish didn't have that traditional Kung Pao taste to it, it tasted more like a spicy salt & pepper seasoning, it still tasted good, but was not Kung Pao. Deep fried salt & pepper pork chops - 5/5, best dish of our meal, perfectly cooked, light crispy coating, tender & moist on the inside, garnished with sautéed green onions & jalapeños, giving the dish a slight hint of heat. Was going to mention the extended amount of time it took to be seated, but the story from the sister-in-law has it that the one older gentleman handling everything in the front half of the restaurant is the owner. To survive the pandemic, he had to lay off 90% of his staff. Overall, the food was delicious, my stomach was full and happy, 4 stars from me.
